Skin Rashes/ Hives

Rashes result in alterations in the overall look of the skin’s texture and color. It may cause the skin to swell, become painful, itchy and irritated. It’s usually caused by skin inflammation. Eczema, granuloma annulare, lichen planus, and pityriasis rosea are some of the many types of common skin rashes.

Symptoms:

  • Itchiness
  • Swelling of skin
  • Skin Redness
  • Chapped or dry/scaly skin
  • Appearance of blisters

Treatment:

Anti-itch creams containing hydrocortisone or moisturizing lotions may be effective in reducing dryness.

It’s one of the most common problems among patients and is considered as one of the most quick-healing issues. Dupilumab (Dupixent) is an injectable monoclonal antibody to get rid of the itch quickly. Antibiotics and antihistamines also help in the treatment and to control the itching. Phototherapy is another treatment method to treat and control the persisting condition.

Hives

Hives, which is a condition also known as ‘Urticaria’, welts, weals or nettle rash, is when an itchy part of skin becomes a raised red patch, usually triggered by an allergic reaction. The after effects of an allergic reaction include the body releasing a protein known as histamine. Once histamine is released, the blood vessels known as capillaries leak fluid which accumulates in the skin and causes a rash. Although it’s not contagious, it affects around 20% of people at a certain point in their lives.

Symptoms:

  • Patches of red colored welts
  • Itching ranging from moderate to severe
  • Painful swelling on lips, eyelids or inside the throat
  • Flares up when exposed to heat or stress

Treatment:

Mostly skin specialists recommend home remedies, such as antihistamines, as it helps in blocking the release of histamine, which will eventually avoid the leakage in capillaries

When antihistamines don’t work, other histamine blockers, anti-inflammation medications, antidepressants, asthma or immune-suppressing drugs are prescribed
